Souvenir de France by Blackbird Designs
(free chart available from Blackbird Designs blog)
Clay Belfast linen (32ct)
Stitched with GAST: Antique Rose
Originally this was going to be a gift, but due to a few finishing mistakes, I think I had better keep it instead and count it as a learning experience. (Next time I would choose a more complementary fabric for the back, and my sewing ability can only improve, as it can’t get much worse.)
I decided to finish this design as a sachet rather than a pincushion, so it is filled with our local Sequim lavender. The rick rack trim was dyed as per Blackbird Designs’ tutorial, and that part of the finishing process was a success! Thing Two got to take a turn shaking the jar, and played outside while the trim hung out to dry in our summer sunshine. I’m very pleased with how the trim turned out; the tan dye gives it a lovely soft vintage look. Time to be brave and try dyeing some linen next.
