Spring Frills humbug

2010 humbug series:  Spring Frills by Just Nan
Lavender Whisper Cashel linen (28 ct)
Stitched with DMC and GAST

Will it take a dash, a pinch or a smidgen of beads to finish this humbug?

The second installment in Just Nan’s humbug series took a little longer than expected to arrive, as the linen shipment was delayed from Zweigart due to the volcanic eruptions in Iceland.  But now it’s here, marking a pretty end to spring.  The special pin is a jeweled tulip.

I’m happy to report that I have my own camera again!  After the burglary I tried out several different point-and-shoot models, but couldn’t find anything I liked as well as the camera I had owned (which was no longer available in stores).  Finally one turned up on eBay for the right price and new in the box!  It is the black lens model (my original camera was the silver lens model) which led the Gimlet to remark that my camera is now wearing guyliner.  Nevertheless, it’s like welcoming back an old friend.

I have to take lessons from you on how you ‘pose’ your little pretties from Nan. As always, well done my dear! I’m currenty working on this one!

LOL … you can’t see the chaos around the picture! I took the screen off the window (my craft room is in our daylight basement) so I could get an “in the ferns” shot without actually putting my precious humbug in the dirt. Immediately the cats came running into the room (because they love open windows), and at the same time a big bug flew inside. Bonus! say the cats. The chase is on!
So the cats are leaping, the bug is buzzing, and I’m just hoping that the whole setup doesn’t tip out of the window. Most of my pictures are not that exciting, thank goodness. ;-)

I really love the things you make…..
As a keen biscornu maker myself I’m always trying to find patterns. I came across your website and there I found the humbugs…Never heard of them, but they are lovely…I’d like to try some, but need charts before I start ordering paid charts…can you tell me where I can find those freebies…
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    greetings from the Netherlands,

    Welcome!

Here’s a humbug tutorial and a link to a free humbug pattern. Creative Poppy also has a humbug tutorial and some pretty humbug patterns, but they are not free.

I think that many rectangle-shaped patterns (with or without a center motif) would make a nice humbug (see this freebie pattern site or My Aunt’s Attic for ideas.) Good luck and have fun!
